Is Floyd Lamb Park good for family photos in Las Vegas?

Floyd Lamb Park is a good place for family photos from November through January and from April through September, and a poor one in October, February and March, because those are the months when the park's gate closes before the sun goes down. Entry is $6 per vehicle at the gatehouse on Tule Springs Road, the park covers 680 acres about twenty minutes north of the Strip, and the ground underfoot is grass and level path rather than desert rock. Floyd Lamb Park never works for a sunrise session, because the gate opens at 8 a.m. all year and Las Vegas sunrise is always earlier than that.

Silva Studios Photography books family sessions as two hours at an outdoor setting of your choice, $500 for 20 professionally edited high-resolution images, and Floyd Lamb Park sits about ten minutes from the studio in Skye Canyon. Choosing this park means choosing the month along with it, which is why the gate hours come up before a date gets held rather than after.

Does Floyd Lamb Park close before golden hour?

Floyd Lamb Park closes before sunset in October, February and March, and stays open past sunset in November, December and January. The park runs two schedules: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from April through September, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from October through March, according to the City of Las Vegas. Las Vegas sunset moves about three hours across the year, so the same 5 p.m. gate is generous in December and useless in March.

Month Park closes Las Vegas sunset Is the last hour of light inside the gate?
October 5 p.m. 5:49 p.m. on October 28 No — the gate shuts 49 minutes before sunset
November 5 p.m. 4:44 p.m. on November 1 Yes
December 5 p.m. 4:30 p.m. on December 21 Yes
January 5 p.m. 4:49 p.m. on January 15 Yes
February 5 p.m. 5:22 p.m. on February 15 No — the last 22 minutes fall outside
March 5 p.m. 6:52 p.m. on March 20 No — golden hour starts nearly two hours late
April to September 8 p.m. 7:14 p.m. on April 15, 8:01 p.m. on June 21 Yes, apart from the weeks either side of the summer solstice

Sunset times above come from the United States Naval Observatory.

The change this year happens on a single evening. Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026. Sunset on Saturday, October 31 falls at 5:45 p.m., forty-five minutes after the gate has been locked; sunset the following evening falls at 4:44 p.m., sixteen minutes before it. Nothing about the park changes overnight — the clock changes, and Floyd Lamb Park turns from unusable at golden hour into one of the few Las Vegas locations where the best light sits inside posted hours. If your month is one of the three that do not work, Where are the best places to take family photos in Las Vegas? sorts the valley's other locations by what is still unlocked at sunset.

Can you take sunrise family photos at Floyd Lamb Park?

No — the Floyd Lamb Park gate opens at 8 a.m. in every month of the year, and Las Vegas sunrise never runs that late. Sunrise on October 28, 2026 was 7:00 a.m., and sunrise on November 15 is 6:18 a.m., an hour and forty-two minutes before the gatehouse opens. Even the latest sunrise of the year, about 6:52 a.m. in the first week of January, arrives more than an hour early.

Sunrise sessions in Las Vegas happen at locations with no gate at all. What time of day is best for photos in Las Vegas? covers how the two ends of the day differ here and which one suits young children better.

What does Floyd Lamb Park actually look like in photographs?

Floyd Lamb Park photographs green — old trees, wide lawns, ponds and real shade, which is the opposite of what most people expect a Las Vegas backdrop to be. Peacocks wander the grounds. The light comes down through the tree canopy rather than straight across open ground, so faces are lit softly instead of squinting into the sun, and there is grass to sit a baby down on.

The park also carries real history, which gives a session settings that are not simply lawn. The historic Tule Springs Ranch is tucked inside the park, along with a restored hay barn, both listed among the park's amenities by the City of Las Vegas. A few blocks away sits Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument, established in December 2014 and described by the National Park Service as the largest Pleistocene fossil site in the Mojave Desert, where springs expanded and contracted for more than 500,000 years. Floyd Lamb Park holds the still-active spring those fossil beds are named for.

Pick this park when you want photographs that do not look like the desert. Families who want red rock and open sky are better served elsewhere, which is a question of taste rather than quality.

What does it cost to bring a family to Floyd Lamb Park?

Entry to Floyd Lamb Park costs $6 per vehicle, paid at the gatehouse on Tule Springs Road. The gatehouse takes cards only — the City of Las Vegas states that cash is no longer accepted at the entry kiosk, and anyone without a card has to pay at a city community center and bring the receipt to the gate.

What you are paying for Cost
One vehicle, one visit $6
Household yearly pass $50
Senior household yearly pass, ages 50 and over $25
Free entry days left in 2026 October 30, November 26 and December 25

A Silva Studios family session is $500 for two hours and 20 edited images, and the $6 gate fee is paid separately at the entrance on the day. Fishing in the park's ponds requires a Nevada Department of Wildlife license, which matters only if someone plans to hold a rod in the photographs.

Do you need a photography permit at Floyd Lamb Park?

The City of Las Vegas publishes no photography policy for its parks, and photography is not one of the nine triggers listed in the City's Park Special Events Policies Handbook. Those nine triggers are attendance above a picnic area's capacity or 75 people, weddings and receptions, amplified music, collecting money on city property, temporary structures, amusement devices, interrupting park roads, inviting the general public, and using a park area for something other than its specified recreational use.

A handheld family session that collects no money on site and puts up nothing meets none of those nine. That is a reading of the handbook rather than a published rule, so small park sessions sit in a gap between two city offices. The park is reachable at (702) 229-8100 and park special events at (702) 229-1087 if you want it confirmed for your date. The photo permits guide lays out where every Las Vegas location stands, including the ones where a permit is not optional, and the park-by-park comparison is in Do you need a permit for family photos at a Las Vegas park?.

Is Floyd Lamb Park easy with a stroller or a grandparent?

Floyd Lamb Park is grass, shade and level path throughout, which makes it the easiest Las Vegas family photo location that also has shade. Walking and jogging paths, reservable picnic areas, barbecue grills and restrooms are all on the City's amenities list, and restrooms matter more than people admit when a two-hour session includes a toddler.

The National Weather Service puts the normal daily high in Las Vegas at 74°F on November 1, falling to 60°F by November 30, with normal lows dropping from 53°F to 42°F across the same month. An afternoon session in the middle of that range needs a jacket for the children between frames.

When should you book a Floyd Lamb Park family session?

Book a Floyd Lamb Park family session for a late afternoon in November, December or January, starting about an hour before that date's sunset. Those three months are the only stretch of the winter schedule where the gate outlasts the light.

Silva Studios Photography photographs families across Las Vegas, Summerlin, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Spring Valley, Enterprise and Paradise, and answers booking messages from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, at (702) 473-0832. Floyd Lamb Park is also a regular choice for maternity sessions, which are $350 for an hour and 15 edited images, and the shade and level ground are the reason. Drive time, terrain and best light are on the park's location page.

The short version: Floyd Lamb Park is one of the best family photo locations in Las Vegas for half the year and one of the worst for three months of it, and the only thing separating those two answers is what time the sun goes down.
