How much do family photos cost in Las Vegas?

A family session with Silva Studios Photography is $500. That covers two hours, an outdoor location of your choice anywhere in the valley, and 20 professionally edited high-resolution images. Across Las Vegas, advertised family prices run from about $69 for a short studio mini session to well past $1,000 once a studio sells prints on top of a low session fee, with most full-length sessions in this city landing between $200 and $600.

That spread is the reason comparing family photographers here is so frustrating. A $99 session and a $500 session are usually two different products rather than one product at two prices, and the difference does not show up until after the photographs exist. Here is what my number covers, what park access adds, and the questions that make a confusing set of quotes comparable.

What does the $500 family session include?

The $500 family session covers two hours, the location we choose together, and 20 finished images. Finished means edited by me and delivered at full resolution through a private online gallery, with no watermark, no charge to download the files, and a print release so you can print them wherever you like.

No sitting fee is added afterward, and no album or print package has to be bought in order to keep your own photographs. Every session on the pricing page is built the same way: one number, images included.

Two hours is deliberate. A maternity session is one hour and 15 images at $350, a newborn session is one hour and 15 images at $450, and a couples session is one hour and 15 images at $350. Adults can be photographed well in forty minutes; children cannot be scheduled. Two hours means a four-year-old gets to be shy for the first twenty without that costing you the session, and that we can move between two spots rather than shooting everything in one light.

How does that compare to other Las Vegas family photographers?

Advertised family photography prices in Las Vegas run from roughly $69 for a studio mini session to $600 and up for a full-length session, and the $500 Silva Studios charges sits in the full-length band. The table below groups the local market by what you are actually buying.

The $500 buys a full-length session where the images are the product rather than a lead-in to a sales appointment. The $500 is not the cheapest number on the list, and what it is instead is a number that does not move after you have seen the photographs.

The row worth reading twice is the session fee plus print sales. That model is legitimate and some excellent photographers work that way, but it is where families are most often surprised, because the advertised price is a deposit against a decision you have not made yet. If a quote is structured that way, ask what a typical family spends by the end.

Why do family photos cost more than maternity photos?

A maternity session with Silva Studios Photography is $350 and a family session is $500. The $150 difference is time and editing volume rather than artistry.

A maternity session is one hour with one or two adults who can hold a pose. A family session is two hours, more people, and usually at least one person under five with strong opinions about the whole enterprise. Doubling the time more than doubles the frames I come home with, because one photograph where four people simultaneously look like themselves takes many more attempts than one of a couple. The edit is where that lands: 20 delivered images out of a much larger set, each worked on individually.

That math is also why I do not sell a thirty-minute family session. I could, and it would price lower. I have never seen one work with young children in it.

What does a Las Vegas family session cost beyond the photographer?

Location access is the only reliable extra cost, and it runs from nothing at most city and county parks up to $25 per vehicle at Lake Mead. The table below is what the agencies themselves publish.

Three spots at Red Rock Canyon carry neither the fee nor the reservation: the Red Spring Picnic Area, the Red Rock Overlook on SR-159, and the Late Night Trailhead on SR-160. Those three are usually the answer when someone wants red sandstone without a timed-entry window.

Permits are the cost people brace for and rarely owe. Under the EXPLORE Act, signed in January 2025, federal land managers may not require a permit or charge a fee for still photography by a group of fewer than six people using hand-carried equipment, and a tripod is named in the statute as something that is not staging equipment. State and county land is a different matter, which is why the photo permit guide lists each agency's own published position rather than one blanket answer.

Outfits are where families actually overspend. A family of four can spend more on new clothes than on the session, and those photographs age worse than the ones where everyone wore something they already owned. Coordinating colors costs nothing.

Prints are a real cost and a genuinely optional one. Because you get the files and a print release, you can spend $40 at a good consumer lab or several hundred at a professional one — your call to make later, not a line item I add.

When should you book, and does the season change the price?

The $500 price never changes with the season, but two fixed dates change what a Las Vegas session can look like, and both of them land this fall. Red Rock Canyon's timed-entry requirement runs October 1 through May 31, with one reservation per vehicle per day, bookable up to 30 days ahead on recreation.gov. Daylight saving time ends Sunday, November 1, 2026.

That second date matters more than people expect. Las Vegas sunset is 6:05pm on October 15 and 4:45pm on November 1, a drop of about eighty minutes overnight, and it slides to 4:27pm by December 1. Golden hour moves from comfortably after school to the middle of the work afternoon, which is why November and December weekend slots go first.

Gate hours compound it. Floyd Lamb Park closes at 5pm from October through March, and the Red Rock Scenic Drive closes at 5pm from November through February — both at or before sunset, so winter golden hour there is simply not available. Lake Mead and the open desert have no posted closing time, which is why winter sessions tend to move that direction.

The heat is also later to break than the calendar suggests. The National Weather Service forecast for Las Vegas on October 1 and 2, 2026 was 95 and 96 degrees. Early October sessions here are still scheduled tight to sunset for a reason.

The advice I give anyway: January through March is the most pleasant time of year to be photographed outdoors here and almost nobody books it. If you are not tied to a holiday card, you get your pick of dates.

How do you tell whether a family session is worth the price?

Compare family photographers on delivery and on session length rather than on the headline number.

Delivery means four specifics: how many images, at what resolution, how quickly, and with what rights to use and print them. A $200 session that returns five low-resolution files with no print release costs more per usable photograph than a $500 session that returns 20 you own outright. Ask for those four numbers from every photographer you are considering and the quotes become comparable in about a minute.

Session length is the second one, and it matters more for families than for any other kind of session. Ask how long the session runs and what happens if a child melts down in the middle of it. With me the answer is that we stop, because a two-hour session has the slack built in.

The third thing is not on any price list: whether the person holding the camera is comfortable with children. I was a nanny for over twelve years before this was my job, and that is the part of the work I lean on hardest. Getting a three-year-old to laugh is not a photography skill, and it is most of what makes the photographs look like your family.
